The Counseling Center is an outpatient mental health and addiction treatment center for adults and adolescents, for those  seeking treatment for addiction, alcoholism, and co-occurring disorders associated with addiction and substance use. The Counseling Center at Cherry Hill offers individual and group mental health therapy, and a state-of-the-art substance abuse treatment program combining evidence-based and 12 step principles with an intense, focused Intensive Outpatient Treatment (IOP) option integrated into professionally-prepared treatment plans.

Shea Lowery, MS, LPC, Clinical Director

Clinical Director, Shea Lowery, relocated to New Jersey from Alaska where she earned a bachelor’s degree in Psychology and a master’s degree in Clinical Psychology from the University of Alaska Anchorage. While practicing trauma therapy, Shea saw how common it is for people to get caught up in addiction as a way to cope with their pasts, thus, her decision to transition into substance abuse treatment.

As Clinical Director, Shea works in conjunction with the clinical staff, ensuring that each patient is getting the individualized care they need to succeed in recovery. Her goal is to make sure The Counseling Center at Cherry Hill provides the best services to our patients and that we are a strong community resource.

Ariel Merillat, Assessment Counselor

Born and raised in New Jersey, Assessment Counselor, Ariel Merillat, has worked substance abuse treatment since 2016. She earned her bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Rowan University and is on track to receive her master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling in 2021.

As an Assessment Counselor, Ariel meets with our clients for their initial assessment, where we gain more insight into their specific addiction or mental health issues. The best part of her job is seeing the drastic and positive changes clients make in their lives from the time of their initial assessment to their final day of treatment.

Originally from upstate New York, Maura relocated to New Jersey in 2011. Given her outgoing and sociable personality, feeling welcome and at home here is always a guarantee. Maura transitioned into substance abuse treatment to pursue her two greatest passions in life, giving back and helping people overcome their difficult times. She is a welcome addition to The Counseling Center at Cherry Hill team.

Tom Roskin grew up in Roslyn, NY and graduated from Syracuse University (Bachelor of Arts). His work as Outreach Coordinator for The Counseling Center allows him to communicate with people all over New Jersey and New York, helping connect providers to the individuals seeking help and the resources they need to improve their lives.

Tom grew up in a family of caregivers, including professionals dedicated to providing mental and physical support to individuals seeking to overcome the disease of addiction. As a student, he developed insights into how different professional and clinical roles collaborate in the community of care and recovery. He now enjoys meeting new people in the Continuum of Care, and building the professional relationships that lead to successful recovery for clients of The Counseling Center across New Jersey and New York.

In 2012, Outreach Coordinator, Robert Lutman, left his union job to pursue a career in substance abuse and mental health treatment. After encouraging some friends and family members to find recovery, he realized how serious addiction is and how much help anyone who is struggling needs.

Understanding how difficult it can be to take the first step in recovery, Robert's goal is to answer your questions and make you feel comfortable. In his own words, “if you’re not helping others, what are you really doing?”.

Originally from Toms River, NJ, Richard Naimoli, Alumni Coordinator, is a Certified Peer Recovery Specialist (CPRS). Richard has personal experience with addiction and recovery, and as such, exudes compassion and understanding for those that are struggling to get sober or even maintain their sobriety.

As the Alumni Coordinator, Richard oversees The Counseling Centers Post-Discharge Wellness Program. He is available 24/7 to ensure the continued safety and healthy lifestyle even after our client's discharge.

The Counseling Center offers state-of-the-art professional outpatient treatment programs and individual counseling, for adults and adolescents, through 8 regional substance abuse treatment centers. Local substance abuse treatment centers are located in FreeholdClarkToms RiverCherry Hill, Monmouth Junction, Middlesex, and Fair Lawn, New Jersey, and in Yorktown Heights serving Westchester County, New York.

Outpatient treatment is a perfect adjunct to inpatient rehabilitation, and for those who qualify, Intensive Outpatient is an effective, comprehensive program of treatment and follow-up care. The Counseling Center works hard to collaborate with treatment centers and providers to maintain a Continuum of Care in support of successful recovery.

Getting Started
with a Clinical Assessment

The Counseling Center at Cherry Hill is an outpatient addiction treatment center for adults and adolescents seeking treatment for addiction, alcoholism, and co-occurring disorders associated with addiction and substance use. The Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) combines evidence-based, state of the art treatment with 12 Step principles. The IOP is an intense, focused experience designed to enable sober and productive living.

IOP may be recommended for individuals who do not require medically supervised detoxification, and who live within driving distance of the center, and for individuals who have recently completed residential treatment (rehab) and are in the early stages of recovery.

Eligibility for the IOP is based on a clinical assessment. Treatment is individualized, and full information on program options, costs, and schedules will be available after assessment.
